The Dewey Arch A temporary
memorial arch built of plaster and wood in 1899, designed by
the architect Charles Lamb, members of the National Sculpture Society
and the American Society of
Mural Painters. The arch stood on Fifth Avenue at 23rd Street,
to the southwest of Madison Square. Stanford White's Madison Square
Garden tower is on the right.
White designed the Washington Square Arch, which was originally also a temporary structure of wood and plaster. http://bit.ly/MemDayNYI |
